Many teenagers despise fairytales nowadays. They say that fairytales just cause too much expectations about life, love and happy endings. Teens who are into writing prefer making stories with tragic endings to make others realize that life isn’t always about happiness. There are times for failure, sacrifices, pain and heartbreaks. We shouldn’t expect that everything will always go our way because the world is cruel. You can’t depend your happiness on anything and what anyone else says aside from yourself.. aside from your heart.
As a teenager myself, I have a different view than my fellow youth. I prefer fairytales. I appreciate stories with happy endings. I believe that teens need fairytales more than anything else. It’s simply because they need anything that would remind them how beautiful life is. Fairytales should instill in their minds that despite all the problems they face, they can always count on a happy ending. We can’t deny that some things often go wrong. There will always be struggles and hindrances but that’s simply because it’s not yet the end.
Maybe the happy ending that fairytales are talking about is our death. Death may be what all people are afraid of but it will sure be a happy end. I call it happy not just because it is when we are set free from the chain of problems but also because it is when our life starts.
A life with no end.
A life with God.
